Today might be the biggest single day of the 2026 World Cup so far.
Six matches. Three groups. And in almost every one of them, something real is at stake: teams scrapping to advance, others just trying to survive. If you slept on the group stage until now, today is the day to pay attention.
Here's everything you need to know.
Group E: Ecuador vs Germany | Curaçao vs Ivory Coast
Where things stand
Germany is already through. They beat Curaçao 7-1 on opening day, then edged Ivory Coast 2-1. Six points, group leaders, done.
The Ivory Coast sits on 3 points; they beat Ecuador in match one but lost to Germany. They need a win against Curaçao today to feel safe. A draw might work too, depending on what happens in the other game.
Ecuador is in trouble. One draw (against Curaçao), one loss. They need to beat Germany and hope Ivory Coast slip up. Both of those things happening at the same time? Unlikely. But not impossible.
Curaçao is one of four first-time World Cup nations at this tournament. They drew with Ecuador and lost heavily to Germany. Today is about more than points for them.
Today's matches
Ecuador vs. Germany—MetLife Stadium, New Jersey | 4 PM ET
Germany can rotate freely. Their coach will probably rest key players ahead of the knockouts. That gives Ecuador a genuine window, but they still need to score goals, and their attack has looked flat all group stage.
Curaçao vs Ivory Coast—Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia | 4 PM ET
On paper, Ivory Coast should handle this. But if they come out nervous and Curaçao sits deep and hits on the counter, things could get messy. Ivory Coast cannot afford a slip here.
Group F: Japan vs Sweden | Tunisia vs Netherlands
Where things stand
The Netherlands has been the group's best team. They drew 2-2 with Japan in a chaotic opener, then destroyed Sweden 5-1. They're through.
Japan drew with the Netherlands and then put four past Tunisia without breaking much of a sweat. They're second on 4 points.
Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1 first up and then got hammered by the Netherlands. They have 3 points, the same as what they started with after match one, but now they're sweating on goal difference.
Tunisia is out of contention. Both matches were lost. Today is their last game at this World Cup.
Today's matches
Japan vs Sweden — AT&T Stadium, Dallas | 7 PM ET
This is the real final of Group F. Both need a result. Japan has the edge on goal difference, so a draw probably sends them through. Sweden needs a win. Expect a proper contest, tight and tactical, and with some nerves showing from both sides.
Tunisia vs. Netherlands—Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City | 7 PM ET
The Netherlands are already qualified, but they'll want the top spot. Tunisia has nothing to lose, which sometimes makes teams dangerous. Don't completely write this one off.
Group D: Türkiye vs USA | Paraguay vs Australia
The most wide-open group
The USA has been clinical—4-1 against Paraguay and 2-0 against Australia. They're through and sitting comfortably at the top.
Paraguay and Australia are level on 3 points each and separated by almost nothing in goal difference. Both won one and lost one. One of them goes home tonight.
Türkiye has lost both games. Their only realistic path involves beating USA and hoping Paraguay and Australia cancel each other out. A stretch, but they're not mathematically dead yet.
Today's matches
Türkiye vs USA — SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles | 10 PM ET
The USA doesn't need anything from this game. They'll still play to win; no team wants to hand out a free result, but expect rotation. Türkiye has to go for it from the first whistle.
Paraguay vs Australia—Levi's Stadium, San Francisco | 10 PM ET
This is the one to watch in Group D. The winner almost certainly advances. A draw could work for one or both of them depending on the Türkiye-USA scoreline, but neither side will want to leave it to goal difference calculations at the final whistle.

Which Matches Are Worth Setting an Alarm For?
Japan vs. Sweden—don't miss this one. Equal stakes, different styles, and neither side can afford to sit back. It'll move.
Paraguay vs. Australia—tense, physical, and with real consequences. The kind of match where one moment decides everything.
Ecuador vs. Germany—Germany resting players opens the door for an upset. Ecuador hasn't shown much yet, but a motivated underdog with nothing to lose can be dangerous.
Six matches. A lot of dreams on the line. That's what the group stage final day is about, and today's one of the best versions of it this tournament has delivered.
